For Designing Pen holder I have used the following steps:

Sketch 1:

Circle: with 90 diameter

Solid:

Extrude: with 90 mm height

Shell:

inside 4mm 

Sketch 2:

center to center slot with 12 diameter

Deboss:

deboss with -4mm

C-patterns:

10 pattern of slot around the Z line

Fillet:

fillet with 3mm
